Biography Meet Dr.Montoya Jr.

Carlos Montoya Jr., M.D. is a board certified physician of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Montoya has also undergone advanced training in the implantation of intraocular lenses, LASIK, and cosmetic eyelid surgery.

Dr. Montoya has over 20 years of experience in the field of ophthalmology. He has performed over 50,000 surgeries which include Cataract, Glaucoma, LASIK and Blepharoplasties. Due to his excellent reputation, Dr. Montoya has operated on many of the local doctors. He has also been placed among the top ten in volume for cataract surgery in Southern California.

Dr. Montoya uses the latest in presbyopic correcting intraocular implants; including ReSTOR and Tecnis multifocal which can provide spectacle independence for near and far tasks, thereby reducing or even eliminating the need for glasses after cataract surgery.

Dr. Montoya attended the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Medical School. During his years at UCI he published several articles in the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, and in the American Journal of Ophthalmology. After graduating medical school he was accepted to UCLA/West Los Angeles VA Medical Center for his internship year. Following his internship he completed his training in ophthalmology at Nassau County Medical Center/Stony Brook University Hospital in the state of New York.

Why did you become an ophthalmologist?

“My father definitely sparked my interest in ophthalmology. At an early age, I remember watching him operate. He received such great satisfaction and joy in ophthalmology. That is when I realized I wanted to pursue this career.”

What in ophthalmology inspires your passion?

"I find great passion in the surgical portion of ophthalmology because the results are so immediate. The day after surgery, I am like a child waiting to open his presents."

"The reason I believe why patients should feel comfortable here is because I have done such a high volume of surgery which has provided me with vast experiences. Besides my experience, I always promise to give my patients an honest evaluation."
